OCFF 2023:
Cinema like you never tasted

Renowned throughout the city, the Oak Cliff Film Festival (OCFF) showcases the best of Oak Cliff’s dynamic theaters, art venues, and local businesses. Since 2011, OCFF has provided a platform for bold, independent filmmakers, fostering creativity in Dallas and beyond. The 2023 festival embraced an entirely new theme: “Cinema Like You’ve Never Tasted”.

Festival Theme: "Soup's On!"

The 2023 theme, developed with Benjy Joung and Nick Denman, brought together cinema and cuisine, using soup as a metaphor for the art of filmmaking. The festival branding incorporated a brothy typeface and playful language, with “Soup’s On” taking center stage across event materials, social media, and film bumpers.

Logo and Identity

OCFF’s logo featured a soup pot, with floating letters (O, C, F, and F) as the ingredients. This symbol represented the creative mix of flavors, nuances, and effort that parallels the filmmaking process. The design translated across posters, programs, tee-shirts, and experiential activations, immersing festival-goers in a cinematic “feast.”

Campaign:

The “Soup’s On” campaign came to life through a series of immersive experiences, including:
Posters, looping GIFs, and interactive XR postcards and tabletents.
Merchandise such as aprons, bandanas, and tees.
Short “bumper” films showcasing various film categories—from narrative features to repertory—each with a unique twist on the soup theme.
